Kyle T asked: I’ve been practicing and tinkering with different roulette strategy, what strategies do you like to play and why? (Give me any variations on them and what you play, i.e. even money, 1-12, etc.)
I’m very familiar with the Martingale system, I actually made $100 using it conservatively (cutting losses after four straight non-hits and throwing some single number bets and getting lucky.) But I do understand the pains of the Martingale system, that’s why I’m asking for others.

Mine is the dozens system, you bet on one dozen every time it hasn’t come up for five spins… and you use a progressive staking system. In theory each spin wins you either $1 or $2. It loses if you have a run of 13 I spins I think, giving it 99.7% success rate or something like that!
Do not use the martingale system! That is probably better advice… that is where you bet 1, if it loses bet 2, if that loses bet 4… and so on until you win. It sounds clever but I just lost big time on that!! So dozens system for me, but I’m working my way through some new ones so might post back later!
In general, it is impossible to take a series of bad wagers which are statistically independent and turn them into a good wager. Here is an example of how you could get around this:
Agree to wager at a disadvantage, such as playing roulette. (The disadvantage could actually be much worse than that!) Promise to pay off your debt each day, but only after you are done wagering for the day. Guarantee that you will never win more than $100 each day. If you can get someone to agree to these terms you bet $100 on the first even-money wager. If you win, you quit. If you lose you double the wager amount after every loss - $200, $400, $800 etc. When you finally win you will net $100 and can call it a day!
The profit opportunity from this little trick comes from the fact that your opponent (the casino) is extending you unlimited credit. For all practical purposes, however, playing roulette is guaranteed to be a net loser of money in the long term.
One strategy you can apply is to quit while you are ahead. This does not help you be a net winner of money, but it can help you feel good! For example, if over four trips to the casino you won $200, $100, $300 and lost $800 you would be down $200. But you would have had three winning nights! The rush of gambling and winning on three different nights might be worth the $200 to you!
My favorite roulette strategy is the
walk-away-when-you’re-
near-a-roulette-table
strategy.
The house edge in roulette is 5.26%, and that’s high. There are a LOT of other games in the casino with MUCH lower house edge.
I’ve probably netted thousands of dollars over the years with this strategy.
Mine is the never-play-a-pure-luck-gambling-game strategy. Hasn’t cost me a dime yet.
Nice strategy there David. Let me know when you find a casino (or a patron) that will extend you unlimited credit. Oh, and you’ll need a table that doesn’t have a bet limit too. Otherwise, when you’ve lost four straight, and you want to double to $1600, but the table limit is $1000… you’re screwed.
I’m in agreement with some of the others… bet small amounts, enjoy playing, and be pleasantly surprised if you win. Do not, however, expect any gambling system to turn the odds around in your favor.
Honestly, there is no way to really win at roulette. The only strategy I like when I play roulette is if a friend owes me money in a bet and we go to a casino I’ll let him put the money he owes me on a number and we split the profits if he wins, if he loses whatever. It’s a nice way to do roulette without playing with your own money.
But if I want to play roulette myself I don’t try to play a strategy since I’m going to lose in the long run. Since I know that intellectually, I just do crazy stuff, mostly playing long shows and avoiding near even money bets like red or black. Since that’s boring. Yeah in the end that is the way to lose the least money, but I want to have fun.
And I know you know about the Martingale system, but seriously to anyone who doesn’t it is a JOKE. It will make you a huge loser in the long run because it is possible for the average person to easily lose their bankroll that way. It’s such a joke someone make a fake XBOX 360 Achievement about it! (Seriously, here’s the source.) DON’T MARTINGALE UNLESS YOU ARE RICH!!!
