It would be very simple to write a roulette program that didn’t pay out very often. I wouldn’t trust an online game like that.

At most sites, it’s probably no different. Of course, since it’s a losing game, you’ll just lose a lot faster than in a regular casino.

Well straight up in a casino you are going to lose $5.26 for every $100 you bet, on average.
At a reputable online casino the loss rate will be the same. But it is basically a losing proposition, so the only thing you can hope is that you randomly get ‘lucky’ and win more than you lose. But over time this is impossible.

It all depends on how you play online roulette. If you use traditional strategies such as ‘neighbors’ or called bets (orphelins, tiers) played on the single zero (French roulette wheel) or predicting repeating number methods as numbers repeat more often online through recursion of the algorithm that generates the near random numbers.
If you are looking for real randomness you can play the live real wheels online also, through live feed video. Whether you would be wasting your money depends on where you play. Play at an online casino that has a good reputation preferably a white listed casino who is licensed in the UK.
With regards to the slightly higher house edge roulette has over black jack and craps this is 2.7% for single zero roulette. Where the probability is worked out that for every $1 you wager you lose nearly 3% of your $1. So the house edge is you lose 3 cents off each $1. In reality you either lose the money you started off with or you win more than you started with. Quiting when you are ahead is the best advice you must understand. The majority of players keep going thinking they are invincible and losing all their gains. Greed. If you are of a compulsive nature then this is not the game for you, you need patience and discipline.

It’s a waste of money both online and in a casino… In 00 roulette, the the house has a 5.26% advantage over you… In 0 roulette, the house advantage is cut to 2.63%, but that’s still not good for you…
Smart betting in craps or blackjack will give you better odds…

depends what your looking for, the real casino does have a feel that you wont get online. If you like all lights and sounds, then the real casino is for you.
But online casinos offer alot of stuff that land casinos don’t. Most of them will offer 100% match bonuses on your first deposit and things like that. This is usually a better deal than most land casino loyalty cards.
The best thing about online casinos though is the offer of some better game rules. Most will offer at least European Roulette with just the single zero for a house edge of around 2.7%. The microgaming casinos will offer French Roulette which plays the La Partage rule, where you only lose half on the even money bets when zero hits. This reduces the house edge again to 1.38%.
But the best is betfair, which offers a version of online roulette with no zero at all. So there is mathematically zero house edge. You’ll never find this on a land casino. Betfair basically uses its casino business as a marketing tool for its sports book business. Which is great for online roulette players
